PM10 High Volume Air Sampler with VFC

Model PM10-HV-VFC is the volumetric flow configuration of our PM10 high volume air sampler. A Venturi tube volumetric flow controller keeps the sampling rate at a constant 1.13 m3/min (40 CFM), which is the flow rate specified by most PM10 reference methods and by the original US EPA high volume sampler design.

How the VFC Version Works

Air is drawn through the PM10 inlet head, which removes particles larger than 10 micrometres by inertial separation. The air then passes through the filter holder and the Venturi tube, and finally through the blower motor. The Venturi tube creates a pressure differential that is proportional to the flow rate; the operator reads this differential on a manometer and adjusts the motor voltage until the specified value is reached. Because the tube geometry is fixed, that pressure differential always corresponds to 1.13 m3/min.

VFC or MFC: Which One Should You Buy?

Choose VFC when your method or your client specifies a constant volumetric flow of 1.13 m3/min, when you need a controller with no electronics and no drift, or when you want the lowest maintenance configuration. Choose MFC when you need the sampled air mass to be constant across altitude and temperature, for example when comparing stations at very different elevations. Many customers order both versions so that the same cabinet and inlet can serve under either method.

What Is Included in the Housing Set

The PM10-HV-VFC set comprises the PM10 inlet head, the base cabinet with shelter pan, the PM10/PM2.5 filter holder, the VFC blower motor housing and the Venturi tube. Blower motor, timer and manometer are supplied separately so that you can match your preferred brands. The complete set packs into four cartons and reassembles in under an hour with ordinary hand tools.

The Reference Volumetric Configuration

Almost every national PM10 method, and the classic high volume sampler design itself, is written around a constant volumetric flow of 1.13 m3/min. Choosing the VFC version means your sampling train matches the method directly, and your results can be compared with historical data sets without recalculation.

Venturi Tube: No Moving Parts

The volumetric flow controller is a machined Venturi tube with a differential pressure port. Because there is nothing to wear out, drift is minimal and the device keeps its calibration over long unattended campaigns. It is also easy to clean and does not need electrical power.

Motor Housing Matched to the Controller

The VFC blower motor housing is shorter than the MFC version (264 mm versus 300 mm) and is finished in powder coating, dimensioned so the Venturi tube sits in the correct flow position. Housing, tube and base cabinet therefore arrive as one matched mechanical set.

Proven Outdoor Durability

The aluminium housing is high-brushed and clear anodized, giving reliable service in coastal, tropical and industrial atmospheres. Stainless steel fasteners and a stainless handle complete the weather-resistant package.

What flow rate does the VFC controller hold?
The standard Venturi tube holds 1.13 m3/min (40 CFM), matching the classic PM10 high volume method. Alternative Venturi tubes for other flow rates can be machined on request.
