What Counts as an Air Sampler Part

An air sampling train is a chain, and every link has a job. The inlet selects the particle size fraction, the filter holder locates the filter so the deposit area is known, the motor and housing produce and stabilize the flow, the controller holds that flow for the whole period, and the filter captures the mass that is finally weighed. Spares are therefore not accessories: a worn gasket or a distorted filter support changes the result just as surely as a mis-set flow rate.

The VFC volumetric flow controller is a Venturi tube with no moving parts, so nothing inside it can wear or drift out of adjustment over a long deployment. It is also why the VFC and MFC housings differ: each is sized to the controller it carries.

How to Identify the Right Spare Part

Start with the model number on the nameplate of the sampler or the control box, then confirm the filter format, since an 8 x 10 inch holder and a 47 mm holder are not interchangeable. Next check the mounting: thread size, bolt pattern and motor housing diameter, because the housing must accept the motor and the controller the cabinet was built around. A photograph with a ruler in frame usually settles the remaining doubt.

Matching the flow controller to the motor housing matters more than it appears. The Venturi in the controller is sized for a flow range and the housing is sized for that controller, so a mismatch produces a flow that cannot be set or that drifts between visits. Where the two are supplied as a set, keep them together.

For unmanned stations, the BLM-240 brushless motor is the usual choice. It produces 1200 W and airflow above 3.5 m3/min, runs for more than 7 days continuously, and has no carbon brushes to replace, so no brush dust collects inside the housing. The BM-240 and BM-120 brushed blowers at 1062 to 1080 W remain the economical option for attended sites.

Materials, Finish and Manufacturing

Air sampler parts are made from aluminum alloy and stainless steel, anodized or powder coated. Aluminum alloy is used where weight matters, such as housings and cabinet bodies, and stainless steel where a surface must resist corrosion and abrasive dust. Anodizing gives a hard, even finish that does not flake, and powder coating is used on parts that face the weather directly.

Machining tolerances are held because the aerodynamics of an inlet depend on them. A jet bore, a holder face or a Venturi throat that is out of specification will shift the cut point or the flow, and no amount of calibration will recover the original method. Parts are packed with the machined faces protected.

Installation, Calibration and Maintenance

Fit the moveable bracket or the mounting plate first and check that the sampler stands level, then assemble the train upwards from the housing to the inlet. Confirm that the filter support screen sits flat before the filter is laid on it, and that the snap cover or cartridge closes without pinching the disc. A filter that is buckled or unsupported will not deliver a reliable mass.

After assembly, leak check the train and calibrate the flow with a gas flow calibrator, using the aluminum calibrator housing CH-01 where the method calls for it. Record the flow, the ambient conditions and the part numbers used, so a later change can be traced to a component. During service, inspect gaskets and seals, clean the blower and housing, check the controller for damage, and renew the filter support screen if it has lost its flatness.

Packing, Shipping and Lead Time

Most air sampler parts ship from stock, which keeps a repair or a scheduled service on schedule. Machined items are protected with foam inside individual cartons, and consumables such as 8 x 10 inch glass fiber paper, 47 mm glass fiber paper, 47 mm PTFE membrane paper with 1.0 micrometer pores and the 47 mm filter support screen are boxed flat. Filter paper takes about 7 days to prepare, so order it early rather than after the hardware arrives.

We ship by air for urgent spares and by sea for bulk orders, and we provide a packing list with weights and carton dimensions so freight and customs clearance can be planned.

OEM, ODM and How to Order

We supply air sampler parts as OEM components and as ODM projects. That can mean a private label on a housing, a holder machined to your drawing, a filter size outside our standard range, a different connector or power standard on a control box, or a complete kit packed under your own part numbers for onward sale.

How do I find the right spare part for my air sampler?

What is the difference between the MFC and the VFC blower motor housing?

Each housing is sized for the flow controller it carries. The BMH01 housing at diameter 190 x 300 mm is built for the MFC arrangement, and the BMH02 at diameter 190 x 264 mm is built for the VFC volumetric flow controller. Fitting the wrong housing means the controller cannot hold the intended flow, so the housing and controller should always be ordered as a matched pair.

Why choose a brushless motor for an unmanned station?

The BLM-240 brushless motor has no carbon brushes, so there is nothing to replace on a service visit and no brush dust inside the housing. It produces 1200 W with airflow above 3.5 m3/min and runs for more than 7 days of continuous operation. For a station that is visited rarely, that combination reduces both maintenance visits and the risk of a motor failure mid-period.

Why does the 47 mm filter support screen matter?

The support screen sits under the filter disc and keeps it flat when the pump pulls air through, so the deposit covers the area the calculation assumes. Without it, or with a screen that has lost its flatness, the disc can bow and tear, and the mass data becomes unreliable. It is a low cost part that protects the whole measurement.

What is the snap cover and filter paper cartridge set used for?

The FPC set holds an 8 x 10 inch filter so it can be handled, transported and loaded into the sampler without touching the deposit. Loading is normally done in the laboratory, where the filter is weighed and then carried to the site in its cartridge. That protects the sample from contamination and from the creasing that causes flow problems in the holder.
