Connect Pipe for PM10-LV and PM2.5 Impactor

Model CP-01 is the connect pipe that joins the PM10 low volume inlet to the PM2.5 impactor. Its 306 mm length, at a diameter of 38.5 mm, sets the distance the air travels between the two stages so that the flow profile is fully developed before it reaches the impaction plate. It is supplied in clear anodized aluminum as a spare part for new stations and for service work on existing ones.

What the Connect Pipe Is

CP-01 is a machined aluminum tube used to join the PM10 low volume inlet to the PM2.5 impactor. It measures 38.5 mm in diameter and 306 mm in length, weighs 0.4 kgs and is clear anodized. The part carries no seal, no electrical connection and no moving component; its job is to hold the two size-selective stages at the distance the method assumes.

Because the pipe is a single rigid piece, the spacing between the inlet and the impactor is the same every time a train is assembled, whether it is built in the workshop or rebuilt at a site.

Why the Length Matters

After the PM10 stage, the air still carries the fine fraction that has to be separated at the impactor. The pipe gives that air a defined distance to travel so that the velocity profile is developed when it arrives at the impaction plate. Change the length and the arrival profile changes; the collected fraction then no longer matches the 2.5 micrometre definition, even though the impactor itself is unchanged.

This is why a replacement pipe should always be ordered to the same length as the original, and why the part is supplied as a matched item for our PM10 low volume inlet and PM2.5 impactor.

Where It Is Used

The pipe is part of PM10 and PM2.5 low volume sampling trains operated by environmental agencies, monitoring networks, research institutes and industrial fenceline programmes. It is also a common spare for service companies that maintain mixed-brand stations, because a damaged or missing connector will stop a train from producing valid results.

Samplers are relocated between sites in many programmes, and a connector can be lost or crushed during handling. Holding one spare per service vehicle removes that risk from the maintenance schedule.

Packing and Lead Time

The pipe is a push fit with the standard clamp. Because the connection is mechanical, the flow setting of the sampler does not change when a pipe is replaced, but a leak check before sampling is recommended. Each unit is packed in a 5x5x35 cm carton and ships from stock under ERP number 98082-000-402 with a three year warranty.

The Correct Length Is Part of the Cut Point

A size-selective train only reports the right fraction if the air arriving at the impaction plate has settled into a stable profile. The 306 mm length of the CP-01 provides that settling distance between the PM10 low volume inlet and the PM2.5 impactor. Fitting a shorter or longer pipe changes the way the air approaches the plate and therefore changes the cut point that the train actually applies.

Simple Push Fit with the Standard Clamp

The pipe goes on as a push fit and is secured with the clamp already used on the train, so a replacement takes minutes and needs no special tooling. Service staff can carry one spare in the case and complete the repair on site instead of returning the inlet assembly to the workshop.

Clear Anodized Aluminum

The pipe is machined from aluminum and clear anodized, which gives smooth internal walls that do not shed particles into the sample and a surface that can be wiped clean without abrasion. The same finish is used on the inlet and impactor bodies it connects, so the whole train has consistent internal conditions.

Light, Small and Inexpensive to Ship

At 0.4 kgs the pipe adds negligible load to the inlet assembly, and its 5x5x35 cm carton can be sent by air freight or combined with other spare parts without changing the freight cost. Distributors use this to hold service stock for several customers at a low inventory value.

From Stock Under One ERP Number

The connect pipe ships from stock under ERP number 98082-000-402 with a three year warranty, which keeps lead times short when a station is waiting for a part. Because it is produced in our own workshop, dimensions match the inlets and impactors supplied with earlier orders.

Can I use a different length of pipe between the inlet and the impactor?
No. The 306 mm length gives the air the settling distance assumed by the method. A shorter or longer pipe changes the profile at the impaction plate and therefore changes the cut point that the train applies.
CP-01 is 38.5 mm in diameter and 306 mm long, with a weight of 0.4 kgs. It connects the PM10 low volume inlet to the PM2.5 impactor with the standard clamp.
The connection is mechanical, so the flow setting stays valid. A leak check before sampling is still recommended after any part of the train has been opened.
The pipe is supplied as the aluminum tube itself and seals with the standard clamp arrangement already used on the train. Spare clamps can be added to the order on request.
