VFC Control Box for High Volume Air Sampler
Model VFC-CTB is the control box that drives the blower motor of a Venturi tube volumetric flow controlled high volume air sampler. It combines a 4000 W SCR power adjuster with a 7 day 24 hour programmable timer and a main switch inside a 160x160x90 mm case, so the operator can raise or lower the motor voltage until the differential pressure across the Venturi tube reaches the value that corresponds to 1.13 m3/min.

What the VFC Control Box Does
This box is the electrical side of a volumetric flow controlled high volume air sampler. It feeds the blower motor through an SCR power adjuster and controls the sampling schedule with a programmable timer, while the flow itself is set mechanically. The operator turns the adjuster until the differential pressure across the Venturi tube reaches the value that corresponds to 1.13 m3/min, and the volumetric flow rate then stays at that point for the rest of the run.
Because the reference point is the pressure differential and not a sensor reading, the flow setting can be checked and repeated with nothing more than the manometer already used by most monitoring stations.
Why the Case Is Only 90 mm Deep
The VFC-CTB is the slim version of our control box family. A volumetric flow controlled sampler does not need the extra electronics that a mass flow controlled sampler carries, so the case depth is reduced to 90 mm, 30 mm less than the MFC control box, while the footprint of 160×160 mm and the mounting pattern stay the same. Owners who run both sampler types can therefore fit either box in the same shelter position without changing anything else.
Installation and Daily Use
The two connecting wires link the box to the blower motor and to the mains supply, and the timer is programmed with the sampling schedule the project requires. Once the schedule is set, the sampler runs unattended. The operator checks the manometer at the start and at the end of the sampling period, and confirms that the Venturi tube is clean, which is the whole routine maintenance task for this part of the train.

Set the Flow with One Control
The 4000 W SCR power adjuster raises or lowers the blower motor voltage, and the airflow follows the setting. The operator reads the differential pressure across the Venturi tube and stops when the value that corresponds to 1.13 m3/min is reached. No software, no calibration table and no flow sensor are needed to bring the sampler to its working flow rate.
Programmed Sampling Without an Operator
A 7 day 24 hour programmable timer switches the sampler on and off on a weekly schedule. Fixed sampling windows, daily runs and weekend pauses can be set once and then left alone, which cuts the number of site visits and removes the risk of an operator forgetting to stop the blower at the end of a run.
A Slim Case That Fits the Shelter
The case measures 160x160x90 mm and weighs 0.85 kgs. At 90 mm deep it is 30 mm shallower than our MFC control box, because a volumetric flow controlled sampler carries no extra electronics inside the box. That leaves more room in the shelter for the motor and the filter cartridge and keeps the wiring run short.
Complete and Ready to Wire
Each VFC control box arrives with the SCR power adjuster, the timer and a main switch already mounted in the case, together with two connecting wires. Apart from the blower motor, nothing else has to be sourced, and the unit is packed in a 20x20x15 cm carton that is easy to store and to ship.
